FEAST AND PAINT IN PROVENCE

Florence Champ x Le Saint Hubert

Following the paths of the impressionist painters, come and join us for a cosy February retreat of scrumptious food and painting in the heart of Provence with Florence Champ at Le Saint Hubert. 

From Monday evening to Saturday morning, we welcome you at Le Saint Hubert to paint, sketch and dine whilst enjoying the scenic Saint Saturnin les Apt. 

This charming hilltop village overlooks the Luberon valley and it is known for its picturesque beauty and charm, combining authenticity and panoramic views.

Imbibe yourself with French flavour and colour while exploring the local market, Roussillon ochre quarries and village cafés. 

The mornings will be dedicated to demonstrations, sketching around the village, and understanding the different components in setting up a still life. 

In the afternoon, we will paint from several inside set ups, still lives or interiors. 

The Saint Hubert also has a very large panoramic window which we could use to paint a landscape. 

About your hosts

The Saint Hubert is a recently refurbished designer boutique hotel. The rooms are jewel toned, furnished with sleek modern comfort and French antiques.

Eric, the head chef, runs the restaurant, offering gourmet fresh and local cuisine.

Lise, co-owner of Le Saint Hubert, will assist the group and attend to the group's wishes and manage the group itinerary. 

Florence Champ, a professional oil painter trained in the classic tradition in Italy, will instruct the courses to guide and support your creative process. 

Studying at The Russian Academy in Firenze, Italy, she was taught plein air and studio still lives. She now specialises in interior scenes with a vintage spark and abundant food scenes.  

Florence will share all her ideas and tips for capturing a scene, as well as staging an interior one. She will provide multiple demonstrations as well as small technical lessons to pave the way for fluid, hassle free creativity on the canvas. 

We will be using mainly oil paints and gouache for quick sketches and experimenting. 

We will have group critiques and reviews each day in the manner of the classical Art training method, and a thorough global one at the end of the week. 

The atmosphere in February will be cosy, and the weather (light and temperature) will dictate our program, but we come prepared for every eventuality with plenty of inside possibilities.

Whilst on our trip we will visit Roussillon, the neighbouring village made of ochre pigment who has supplied artists with its rich hues for centuries.

We will also enjoy a local wine tasting. Our last day will have a group review aperitif, with a critique of all the participants work before dinner.

Open to beginners, experienced painters and non painting participants alike. 

All art supplies will be provided. If you paint already consider bringing your favourite brushes as they are a very personal preference.

Included 

Five nights hotel stay at Le Saint Hubert with arrival dinner + four full days + farewell brunch. 

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included in the experience at local establishments and at Le Saint Hubert. 

All towels and linens are provided in the cozy, luxurious hotel rooms at Le Saint Hubert. 

Not Included

Travel costs are not included in the painting atelier fee. 

We are happy to help organise taxis from Marignane Airport or Avignon TGV at your cost.

Transportation

We suggest flying directly to Marseille Marignane International Airport and a taxi pick up to get to Saint Saturnin les Apt. 

The second option is to fly into Paris Charles de Gaule International Airport, then take the TGV from Charles de Gaule to Avignon TGV, and a taxi pick up to get to Saint Saturnin les Apt.
